I did a lot of research before I ordered this grill. Ducane has a fine reputation for a good well designed product as well as outstanding customer service. I am using the grill almost daily and it is truly the best gas grill I have ever owned. This is my 4th grill. After I opened the box and started the assembly process, I noticed there were a couple of parts that were damaged during the shipping process. The outside of the box did not show any signs of damage. I called Amazon and they told me to contact Ducane as their customer service is good. Amazon told me that if the parts that were damaged were not covered by Ducane's warranty, they would cover the costs. Well, Ducane shipped me the parts 2 days later and I was back in business. I am a very satisfied customer. This is the first time I ordered anything from Amazon. They had the most competitive price. -- Ducane Affinity 3400 Gas grill
The following is the review I posted at Consumer Reports for this grill:
I've had the Ducane Affinity 3400 for a few weeks now and will say that I am quite pleased with the purchase. It has performed up to expectations and beyond. Although Ducane has been bought out by Weber and their grills are for the most part made in China, the build quality is good and from what I've read Weber has good customer service, although I haven't had to put that to the test myself.
Assembly was easy even though the manual uses only drawings and no written instructions in the assembly section. (There is plenty of other well written useful information as far as maintenance and safety go). It took me about an hour and a half to complete. The cart is quite sturdy (no wobble here!) and the side tables are steel and solidly attached. Wheels and casters are solid and roll smoothly. Fit was excellent as I had no problem aligning any hardware holes. Finish is good. CR lists as a 'con' in their review that there are no spider screens - yes and no. The main and rotisserie burners do have them but not the side burner which was probably a concession made for ease of assembly. Note: I don't recall if the manual suggests to or not, but when I first operated the grill I ran all burners on high for about 20 minutes to burn off any remaining manufacturing residue.
Cooking performance of this grill is excellent. It gets plenty hot and does a good job of searing meats. I can believe Ducane's claim of 60,000 BTU/hr. Heat control is fairly linear and the design and spacing of the burners and heat distribution plates allow for good zone or indirect cooking. Flame-ups are no worse than on any other grill that I've seen. The warming plate is a bit on the small side and I would have preferred it be of your standard wire grate design instead of a panel with louvers punched into it, but it is functional. The side burner is able to boil a large pot of water for cooking your corn on the cob. The smoking tray works well in either of the two suggested locations (above and below main grate). The rotisserie accessory looks solid and functional but I have to admit I haven't used it yet. This model utilizes a standard open flame burner type vice infrared for the rotisserie heat source. I plan on testing it soon. I have no way of knowing the accuracy of the temperature gauge but I did bake a pizza in the grill set at about 400 degrees and it turned out well. Cleaning the grill is not difficult.
I am pleased with this grill so far and feel it is worth the purchase price. I would recommend it to friends although I might suggest a larger model if you are cooking for more than 6-8 people. I would give it a 4.5 stars if possible but can't give it 5 as I haven't tested the rotisserie yet. -- Good quality and performance
